CLOWNING AROUND: Watteau, Pierrot

Watteau's Pierrot is a stock character from Commedia dell'Arte (improvised comedic theatre) & perhaps his self-portrait. We view the painting from below, watching Pierrot perform center stage: a hauntingly static sad clown glowing white light in a ruffled collar romper, reminiscent of my mille-feuille neckline.
