Something About Sparkles

3.1 Phillip Lim dress. Linea Pelle belt. Vintage costume pearl necklace worn as headband. Vintage costume gold necklace worn backward. Vintage rhinestone & Les Néréides (a souvenir from my trip to Paris) bracelets. Turquoise ring (a souvenir from my trip to St Thomas). Crochet tights. Lanvin shoes.
Last night's Met Gala for the 2010 Costume Institute exhibition (“American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity”) was a red carpet event extraordinaire; Vogue’s partnership demands nothing less. Two of my favorite threesomes of the evening included The Beatles' progeny: Stella McCartney, Liv Tyler & Kate Hudson (clad in Ms. McCartney’s designs) & Sasha Pivovarova, Sean Lennon & Charlotte Kemp Muhl (all in Marni). Meanwhile Alexa Chung charmed with insouciance in a 3.1 Phillip Lim tuxedo, channeling a schoolboy matador.
Speaking of Mr. Lim, this bedazzled dress takes the cake (literally: I wore it on my recent birthday); a few dabs of jewels around my neck turn the frock into a bright star. Its peekaboo back conjures dreams of bare legs & a delicate chain-strap purse... Perhaps I’ll evoke one of the swans from last night & wear this dress to the Met's exhibit one summery day soon.
