Ruffled Feathers

Roberto Rodriguez sweater. 3.1 Phillip Lim dress. Vintage Ralph Lauren belt. Tulle bow headband. Vintage costume pearl necklace. Gold (a 14th birthday present) & costume charm bracelets. Knit tights. Chanel ‘2.55’ bag. Miu Miu shoes.
Classic Chanel + red ruffles + leopard = Park Ave Princess turned saucy minx on the prowl... A rouged frock/animal print evokes Mae West, but a bow headband/ruffles recall Shirley Temple (a dichotomy for the ages). My black accessories include a silver-tipped Ralph Lauren belt & a hard-won Chanel bag (apparently the French brand is flouting economic concerns by proceeding with their annual price increase - stock up now if you can).
Last night I went to the Carlyle Hotel's Bemelmans Bar, one of my favorite examples of Art Deco architecture. The bar is named after artist Ludwig Bemelmans, who painted Central Park scenes on the walls in the same style as his Madeline children's books. The piano player sang a medley of Billy Joel & Frank Sinatra tunes that made me nostalgic for a time I never knew (one person's saccharinity is another's classic NY night).
